PBS win in QLD for quad

Jul 01, 2023

Under the Higher Mass Limits Scheme in Queensland, 24-tonne loading is now allowed.

This is specific to Performance-Based Standards (PBS) combinations with quad-axle trailers fitted with super single tyres that have a minimum 375mm section width.

Transport operators can now apply for this new mass limit for existing or new PBS combinations.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Heavy Vehicles Unit released the statement last week on the back of a competed pavement impact analysis. It said the Truck Industry Council (TIC) also has a research project underway to review heavy vehicle tyre pavement impacts from a national perspective.

PBS specialist, Smedley’s Engineers, has been working directly with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and TMR to achieve this outcome and has also been directly involved in the aforementioned TIC project.

In related international news, Britain is rolling out new legislation for Longer Semi-Trailers (LSTs).
