Two tractor trailers roll on I

Aug 18, 2023

Aug. 29—Two tractor-trailer rollovers, a little more than 6 miles apart and within roughly an hour of each other, slowed Interstate 81 traffic Tuesday morning in both directions.

Between the two crashes, just one person was reported injured, according to the Lackawanna County Communications Center.

The identities of the drivers and other details of how the crashes happened were not immediately available from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Trooper Robert Urban, a spokesman for Dunmore-based Troop R, said no other vehicles were involved in either crash.

The second crash had been cleared from the road by about 1:50 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

According to dispatch officials, the first tractor-trailer flipped at 7:54 a.m. near mile marker 195.4 in South Abington Twp. That was about 2 miles north of Exit 194 in South Abington Twp.

Vehicle traffic slowed in the area, though the tractor-trailer itself did not block lanes. One person reportedly had an ankle injury, according to the 911 center.

Then, about 6 miles south near mile marker 189, by the Scranton-Dunmore border, another tractor-trailer flipped at 9:01 a.m. and snarled traffic in the northbound lanes.

This time, the truck's trailer cut across one of the interstate's lanes.

No injuries were reported in that crash.
